Silhouette & Sunset

Silhouette & Sunset

A few shots from the past week or so. Back to the same area, around the canals in the hope to recreate the sunset from a while back. No such luck this time, so I tried to use the back lighting to get silhouettes and try a different type of shot. I also managed to capture a nice sky the day after. Not quite what I was hoping for, but by no means disappointing.

Canal

Canal

On Saturday I went down to a place I've wanted to photograph for a while. Its in the middle of the countryside, and I've drove past it a few during sunsets before and thought it would make a good shot. I went down and attempted to shoot it this weekend. Although the sky wasn't quite as good as I had seen in previous passings, I still think I managed to catch it well, and has become one of my favourite shots of recent months. I've seen a few more shots I can get from there too, so I'll be back here as soon as I can!

Sunrise & Sunset

Sunrise & Sunset

This saturday I had a busy day, getting up for sunrise and staying out for sunset. I chose the same spot for sunrise as previous days, and a new location for sunset. It was't the greatest day for either really, but I think I managed a couple of half decent shots.

Sunrise

Sunrise

On Wednesday I got up early and decided to head out to hopefully photograph the sunrise. Its the first time I've attempted to shoot a sunrise, so was really a bit of a learning experience. The weather looked a bit hit and miss when I got up, could just about make out some clear sky, but I forced myself out and drove to what is quickly becoming my favourite place to photograph in Leicestershire.

I left it a little late, the traffic was a bit worse than imagined, and I could see the sky brightening as I approached the hill. First lesson learnt and I hadn't even got out of the car! Will leave earlier next time! I rushed into position just as the sky had turned red, and was amazed by how much the sky changed in such a short space of time. I knew where I wanted to shoot from earlier trips at sunset, having already picked a few shots in my mind, I managed to set up pretty quickly. The wind was ice cold and very strong, but I got a few shots I'm pleased with.

I was surprised at how little time you have to capture the colours of a morning sky, with the light soon changing, and of course the typical cloud cover taking over, you really have to be ready and waiting for the sun to rise to get a chance at photographing it! Lessons learnt; Try to be there a bit before the sunrises, don't underestimate how long it will take you to get there, and most importantly, don't forget your warm hat!

Bad Weather

Bad Weather

Last Wednesday I ventured back out to find a sunset to shoot. I ended up back at the same place I've visited twice before. The weather had been rubbish all day, and it wasn't looking promising to get a shot. Just before sunset though, the clouds gave me a break and I managed to get a couple of half decent shots before it clouded over and the rain began again. Im soon realising that even if the weather doesn't look good, all you need is a quick break in the cloud to totally transform the landscape and the shot.

Sunset 2

Sunset 2

I went back up to the same place I went at the weekend because I had a feeling I might be able to catch a good sunset. It started off promising, but not long after I got there the clouds crept in and it was starting to rain by the time I left. I managed to get 2 shots, one when it was looking like a good sunset, the other just as the rain clouds were setting in. Just goes to show how quickly the weather can change!

Sunset

Sunset

After a pretty slow christmas and new year for photography, being Ill and the weather meaning I couldn't do as much as I wanted, I finally got a break last night and went to catch the sunset. I went to one of the highest places in Leicestershire to make sure I had a good view, and I found a few other areas there too for future shots. It turned out to be a really nice sunset and I managed to get one shot I think is ok. More shots from there to follow...as long as the weather is in my favour!
