Afternoon Tea

New food photo

I took this shot at the weekend and I'm pretty impressed how is come out. It was shot using natural daylight from a window behind to the left of the scones. A small reflector was used just underneath the lens to adda little fill light to the front of the scones. Its become one of my favourite food shots that I have done..

Macro Photography

Macro & wildlife photography is a field of photography that I'm also interested in. In July 2012 I went on my first photography course with Richard Ashbee. The main focus of the day was wild orchids & insects. A great day out in the Peak District resulted in some shots that I'm very happy with. Richard taught me a great deal on the techniques of shooting macro, and the lessons learnt on that I have transferred to other areas of photography, especially food.  When the weather finally improves I'm hoping to get back outside and continue to improve my macro shots.

Food Photography

As well as landscape & macro photo, I have a keen interest in food and travel photography. My like of food photography came from not being able to get out as much as I like die to the bad weather this winter. I decided that I would have a go at photographing food, as the weather doesn't have an effect indoors. It is an area of photography that I am eager to persue and improve on. The vast majority of my shots are using natural light, with the odd few taken using off camera flash or light and small soft box. A few examples are below. Would love to know what you think..

Peak District Landscape Photography Course

Below are a few photos that were taken on Landscape Photography course I went on in the middle of March. It was a day course with professional photographer Richard Ashbee. It was a bitterly cold day, but despite the cold we were very lucky with the weather, interesting skies in the morning and sufficient light in the afternoon. A vast improvement in my landscape photography is evident in just one day, and as with my macro photography course with Richard, I would highly recommended to anyone looking to improve their photography!
